Background to C2
Connecting Communities originated in the mid 1990’s with the Beacon Project which dramatically reversed the health and social decline of the community of the Beacon and Old Hill Estate, near Falmouth, West Cornwall.
In 2004 the Health Complexity Group( HCG) conducted retrospective research of Beacon analysing the experiences of residents and service providers. Whilst prospectively tracking the regeneration process in neighbouring Redruth North. The HCG identified enabling features and potential barriers to transformational change. This research has shaped and informed the Connecting Communities (C2) programme.
C2 was piloted in 2004 with the
Camborne Neighbourhood Beat Team and in 2005 the South West Peninsula Strategic Health Authority became the hosting Authority for the roll out of C2 in Devon and Cornwall.
In 2007 Devon & Cornwall Police Constabulary commissioned C2 to provide community engagement training for the North and East Devon Basic Command Unit ( BCU) of 250 officers.
Sport England South West has also engaged with C2 and in September the first sub regional workshop will be run with the Wesport. Team working with the disadvantaged communities of Bristol.
The C2 programme is growing from strength to strength and is proving that truly sustainable regeneration does not happen in boardrooms, but is all about people and relationships.
